ARTS & STUFF IN MILTON KEYNES (and nearby)

Arts Gateway MK The place to start for all MK-based Arts Stuff (formerly MK Arts Association). They do a really good weekly email rounding up pretty much everything that's on. Sign up and tune in!  ;-)
A Word In Edgeways Ace MK-based dramatic storytelling group. Website not been updated for a while though...
billbones Not quite a blog and not quite a comic.
BlueGirl The question... "Who Is BlueGirl?" - the only answer I can give is that she had a poem in Monkey Kettle #27 and she's now some kind of MK-based visual artist!
Company MK Impressive local theatre, particularly of big musicals an t'ing.
Festive Road MK-based arts group who are particularly excellent at carnival arts and outdoors performances.
Giles' MySpace The Mighty G - he's one of our ace mates and he's a photographer.  If you need one, you may be able to hire him... Enjoy!

MADCAP Performing Arts Centre Simply the greatest arts venue in the Mirror City. Check out the What's On - it's often us!
Peppers Ghost Theatre Company
Award-winning local theatre company. We should know - it was us that gave them the award! One of the best local groups in MK.
Poetry Kapow! We passed on the Poetry Slam baton to these groovy types - who do it much better than us anyway! Kapow!
Paul Rainey MK-based cartoonist and illustrator, his recent Book Of Lists is a total gem.
Sonnoria A site which allows poets to self-publish their work, either textually or as audio recordings. Run from MK.
Speakeasy Long-established MK Writers' group who do workshops, events, etc. Recommended.
Structo magazine Now based in MK, Structo is an excellently-presented short story / poetry magazine, you really must check it out. We're not rivals - we're friends!
Tongue In Chic Formed in 2009, an MK-based "Open Mic and Spoken Word" night which has already established itself as one of the best in town!  Skillz!
Whose Turn Is It Anyway? MK-based improv team, based primarily at MADCAP. Any resemblance to a long-gone C4 impro comedy show is strictly intentional. Knob gags aplenty, so well worth a look.
BANDS & MUSIC IN MILTON KEYNES AND NEARBY,
SOME OF WHICH WE HAVE QUITE MAJOR CONNECTIONS WITH - OR ARE IN!
AMPjam MK Music E-zine, reviewing the ever-growing wide-ranging MK Music scene. Well played!
Basement Music Our favourite show on CRMK (still going strong after all these years!), DJ Michael Andrews presents all the best and most up to date news from the brilliant local music scene. Listen back to old shows on the MySpace too!
Bine The Peg An extremely talented young lady on both pianner-keyboard and acoustical guitar.
Dusque Smashing trancey dance grooves - we've had Dusque on at a couple of our gigs & fests now and have totally dug them each time. Mmmm...
Fifteen Minute Acoustic Club All new acoustic & band night up at the Living Room in the Hub (and also details of their other branches). Every other Sunday night, a perfectly mellow way to close down the week. Especially if we're on!
Final Clearance We dig these MK indie-rockers so much we specifically invited them to headline our 2010 Waterside stage. Niiice.
The Further Adventures Of Vodka Boy "Milton Keynes' premier three-man acoustic duo"... official!
Jet Lagged Jeff Our mate Jeff is a beardy Canadian troubadour and one of the nicest people you could meet on the MK music scene!
Jokulhaups Records Localish (Bedfordshire, really) record label, with examples of their various acts' wares here on their MySpace. An eclectic output!  Trancey, dancey, Eurobeaty and more...
Lecarla Rising out of MK and onto the national music scene like a speeding bullet, Lecarla are one of the best bands we've seen in the City for donkey's years! Smash!
Lionsex Possibly the rockingest muthas on the MK circuit - check 'em out, if you can handle it!
Old School Studios New Bradwell-based rehearsal rooms, recording, music lessons etc.
OTL / Cellartapes Our mate Jaymz is seemingly in a billion dancy/trancy/electroey outfits. Here's his site.
Dan Plews Local boy made extremely good on the international Folk scene.
Project Wolverine Describes himself as "the bargain bucket Billy Bragg", I reckon he's one of the most talented young singer-songwriters we've got in MK!
The Road To Corm Have you ever dreamed a golden city to believe in?  Fabtastic concept rock side project fun!
Rock Hard Music Hidden away a bit in Old Wolverton industrial estate, Rock Hard is an ace new musical instrument store which also does PA hire and runs a rehearsal studio into the bargain.
Phil Sky Monkey Kettle Music Hero Phil is "The Lo-Fi King Of Milton Keynes" - official!!!  Here's his MySpace, dude! Awesome!
Seeking Salvation Through Love One of our hardest-working colleagues on the open mic circuit, SSTL and his many pedals seems to be permanently on the road - but it pays off, he's slowly gaining national attention! Dude!
Sunset Acoustic Lounge Long-standing "ace open mic night" at the Cannon in Newport, hosted by the magnificent Jeff. Every Thursday without fail. Be there - and you'll hopefully see us too!

The Zeroes Flamenco punk-poppers with bags of experience (i.e. they're slightly older than me!) and plenty of toe-tappin' choons. Their "Club Zero" nights are ones to look out for too...
FURTHER AFIELD : WRITING RESOURCES (including other Poetry Mags)
Clod Magazine Luton-based mag - you've got to stay on good terms with the neighbours innit.
Dee Sunshine: Writer & Artist Very well-organised writer/artist, plenty for sale and to look at here, including a pretty comprehensive list of Writers' resources and details of poetry mags etc.
Duotrope Comprehensive guide to poetry magazines and writing resources, including an entry for us which includes a kind of pretend interview I did with them in 2010.
Ian Barker Also listed below among the Monkey Kettle poets, but worth mentioning twice - you can download his poetry books for free  - an MK poet who's escaped to the US!  (waves)
Ink Provoking A site which generates regular writing challenges to get you going if you're stuck. Which is fair enough.
Lit Mag Central Very comprehensive site with links and articles about Lit in the UK.
Litmags.org Almost mathematically comprehensive US-based mag site, but I've just added us. Kerchingo!
Mat Lloyd A performance poet from the area between and including MK and London. I must have met him at some stage, I've got his business card!  Check him out!
Luton Haiku "A Haiku every weekday. When I remember. About Luton."
The Poetry Kit  Useful set of links and resources for all kindsa poetry. You'll spot us listed in the magazines section. Um... with our PO Box Address we closed years ago still listed. D'oh!
Prole A 'small literary journal' which looks really good to us. Also offer a profit-share scheme for included writers, which is highly commendable in these time of financial uncertainty!
Rrrants A brilliant networking and promo service for poets and performers all across the South and beyond. Highly recommended.
Sixties Press
Publishers of great and underrated poetry. Get involved.
Wrote Under Pressure Birmingham-based literary and spoken word group. I've even bin in their mag a coupla times.
JUST OTHER THINGS WE LIKE
Cats That Look Like Hitler Pretty much what you'd imagine.
Garfield Minus Garfield What happens when you take Garfield out of Garfield?  This, that's what. The story of one man's mental torment. Fantastic.
The Meaning Of Liff The full text of Adams & Lloyd's classic work.
Penguin Cam At Edinburgh Zoo. I could watch this for hours... In the daytime, that is.
Pokey The Penguin Excellently bizarre online cartoon, with no graphical expense spared. Some of this actually reaches genius. Though I have no idea why...
Rabbit With Things On Head Site One of my favourite web pages ever. Japanese chap fills the web with photos of his rabbits with things on their head. And that's it. Enjoy!
Robert Unicorn Possibly the greatest game of all time. My record score is something around the 51,000 mark, but Simon deleted it cos he was jealous.
Sad Kermit Aw man. Even though the Internet is genius, sometimes the genius can still be very very upsetting.
Tea How to make tea. Something I think we can ALL learn from.

"Lieutenant Gruber's Liddle Link Vall"

We've had over three hundred writers in Monkey Kettle over the years. Luckily not all of them have asked me to advertise their websites. But here's the ones that have. And some of the ones that haven't. Those of particularly good pals of ours are marked with a weeny asterisk!  ;-)

Apologies if any of these are dead. I can't be bothered to check them very often, and I'm certainly not going to have time to chase them up. If you spot one that's dead, tell us and I'll delete it. Shazam!
